Angela Angeles grew up in a household where creativity was always present. Her mother owned a dress shop when she was a child and Angela credits her mother as her greatest influence in her decision to pursue a career in jewelry. Angela passionately admits that she has loved crystals since she was a child. Then again, which little girl does not like crystals?
Angela studied architecture at the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines, but was always creating jewelry and accessories on the side. After graduating, she wanted to learn more about jewelry. Her dad encouraged her to get more immersed in the field by taking a short course in London at the Fashion School Central Saint Martins, where she took two courses; Experimental Jewelry and Building a Jewelry Business .
Upon returning to the Philippines, she interned with a jeweler and after a few months applied and received a full scholarship to the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) Endowment Scholarship Program, a 6 months intensive course on Gemology; diamond grading and colored stones. Here she learned to look and grade diamonds, identify colored stones, learn the history, different treatments and malpractices in the jewelry industry.
Angela has worked with various collections and mediums, but credits her first collection “The Fierce Angel Collection” on the Spotlight Accessories website as a merry mix of her favorite things-floral landscapes, angels wings and French Renaissance jewelry. She was inspired and influenced with intricate floral and renaissance jewelry after her travels to Europe-visiting various jewelry museums and antique jewelry shops.
Currently Angela works with white metal alloys and silver as well as glass beads and wire however, in the future collections we will see experimentation with more organic materials such as pearls, mother of pearls, horn, wood and even bamboo. She also intends to create a line of sculptural jewelry.
We cannot wait to see what the future creations will look like!
